About Us

Dovetail Greenhouses was formed in 1993 when I and an ex-colleague Trevor Jones decided to put our already considerable experience in the greenhouse industry into the creation of a new company.

We had been involved in the supply of greenhouses to the big retailers in the UK and in other parts of the world and had come to realise that the needs of the individual customer were often forfeited in the vain hope of achieving volume sales.

It seemed to us that the big retailers were demanding that we made greenhouses to the lowest common denominator and this was invariably based on price.

We believed that our customers had individual needs and that our role in this new company was to listen and adapt our products to suit those requirements. Of course, in doing this, we do not make as many greenhouses as we used to.

However we have continually developed products that we know suit the gardener and the individual far more than ever before.

We will continue to adapt and change, to listen and learn and who knows in the long term some of the big retailers may start to realise that our approach is the right one in this ever demanding age in which we live.

In 1999 we purchased and began to produce the Headen and Sun range of greenhouses. These two long established brands had been around in the industry for over 40 years.

The products made by these two companies were renowned as being sturdy, reliable and storm resistant greenhouses.

After the hurricane that devastated the south east of England in the 1980's the main consumer magazine in the UK named the Headen 86 greenhouse `as the most storm resistant greenhouse in Britain'.

Since taking over the production of the Headen and Sun ranges, we reconsidered the design, listened to our customers and further improved this already exceptional greenhouse.

The present Dovetail Greenhouse which now supercedes the Headen and Sun range now has more than twice the content of aluminium within it than any of the greenhouses that are sold via the large retailers here in the UK.
